The Port of Cadiz receives the first cruise ship propelled by liquefied natural gas

With 6,554 passengers and a length of 337 metres, AIDANova is also the largest cruise ship to date. The Port of Cadiz has received early this morning the first cruise ship propelled by liquefied natural gas, the ship AIDANova, belonging to the Excellence class of the shipping company AIDA Cruises and the largest built to date in Germany. The AIDANova, delivered last December, has arrived in first call at the Port of Cadiz and has docked at the Alfonso XIII quay, becoming, with its 337 meters in length and 183,200 gross tons, the largest cruise received so far. It also beats the record for passengers in a single ship, with 6,554 passengers and 1,650 crew on board. The cruise ship has arrived from Arrecife de Lanzarote and will depart around six o’clock this afternoon to Malaga. Today it shares a call with two other cruise ships: the Seven Seas Explorer, with 743 cruisers, and the Spirit of Oceanus, with 94 passengers. It should be remembered that, according to the latest study by the Junta de Andalucía on cruise tourism in the region, the average expenditure per cruise ship and day in port of call is set at 40.6 euros, so the annual impact so far would amount to 16.2 million euros.
